CanuckleHead Junior - READ ME! About CanuckleHead Junior: CanuckleHead Junior is a fun and interactive "Quiz Game Show" designed to present questions based on the information in the Canadian Encyclopedia CD-ROM. There are 720 questions on the CD-ROM. After you launch the CanuckleHead program, you will be prompted to enter your full name. Once your name is entered, you can choose to play a game based on the questions from the Disk or questions from the Internet. If you have an Internet connection, additional questions will be provided through the Internet. These questions will be added to on a periodic basis. About the CD-ROM Based Game: - Games are organized into categories such as "Arts", "Society", etc. - Categories are organized into three levels, level 3 being most advanced. - The "All Categories" category randomly generates a game. First it randomly chooses 10 of the 13 categories and then randomly chooses one question from each of the chosen categories. - The highest Top Ten scores are stored for each game of each category. About the INTERNET Based Game: - Questions are organized into "Episodes" containing 10 questions each. - If you enter your e-mail address (optional), CanuckleHead will mail the results of your game to the e-mail address you specify. - After you finish the last question, a list of the current Top Ten score holders will be presented. Your scored is compared to other people around Canada (or even the whole world) who have played the same episode. If you score appears in the list, you made the Top Ten. If it is the first time you have played that episode, your score will appear in green text and will be saved in the CanuckleHead "world-wide" on-line database. Your score is stored only once per episode so if you play the same episode again, your score will appear in red text and will NOT be stored on the Internet. The RULES of CanuckleHead: - Each question has 4 possible multiple-choice answers. - To answer a question, you can either click on the answer with your mouse, or press "1", "2", "3" or "4" on your keyboard. - Some questions have associated pictures. Usually the picture initially appears in an obscured form and progressively reveals itself over time to help you answer the question. Revealing pictures may have one of three styles; 1) Focus, 2) Tiles, 3) Zoom-Out. Questions without pictures have three textual hints to help you instead. - Some questions have a higher complexity and therefore a higher initial point value. Questions are presented in one of two methods: 1). "Timed" Questions: - The question is timed and you must choose the correct answer quickly for highest points. - If you are unsure of an answer, wait a few seconds and, if there is not picture, the hints will start to appear otherwise the picture will start revealing itself. - Correctly answer the questions as fast as possible for the most points. - Incorrectly answered questions get a 1000 point deduction. - Timed-out, questions (questions not answered at all) have no point deduction. - Regardless of initial point value, all "Timed" questions have the same amount of lapse time before timing-out. 2). "Non-Timed" Questions: - The question is NOT timed. You can take your time answering. If you answer incorrectly, you keep choosing answers until you are correct. - Each time you choose an incorrect answer, you loose one third of the potential points so you must answer correctly in the first attempt to make the highest points. - Correctly answer in your first attempt for the most points. Be sure to visit the "Summary" screen at the end of the game to see (and save) associated links and resources to the questions you just answered. To QUIT CanuckleHead: - Press "Control-Q" or the "ESC" key. To Force CanuckleHead to RESTART: - Press "Command-R" (Mac) or "Control-R" (PC).
